The DILAPRO project is actively shaping the future of sustainable manufacturing by spearheading critical
advancements within ISO TC 261.
We are excited to report significant progress in Joint Group 84 (JG 84), led by Gregor Reischle (Qualified AM GmbH), where
the development of ISO/ASTM 52964—the new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) standard for Additive Manufacturing—is gaining momentum.
Inspired by our work in the DILAPRO project, we are introducing a strategic dual approach to the standard to capture the full sustainability value of AM:
• Cradle-to-Gate: This standard focuses on the LCA for AM parts, equipment, and materials, meticulously capturing
the environmental footprint up to the point of production.
• Gate-to-Grave & Circularity: A major new standard proposal that places a strong emphasis on design for circularity
and process feature value, effectively unlocking deeper sustainability through AM innovation.
This dual approach ensures the standard reflects the complex needs of industry and policy, promoting a more holistic view.
